The PM5005 has six stereo analog inputs, including a phono input for connecting a turntable, and two sets of recording outputs. Eight binding posts allow connection of two sets of stereo speakers with front-panel A/B switching for use with speakers in two rooms. Rated at 40W per channel it isn’t going to bring the house down, but it’s ample for most rooms at modest volumes. Showing Marantz’s audiophile heritage, the PM5005 uses customised components and a Source Direct control for the purest, most accurate sound. Let there be no doubt, if it’s a lively, dynamic sound with great detail you’re after, the PM5005 is one of the best in its class. With improved controls, the PM5005 looks and feels better than ever. Despite being the entry model in the Marantz range, the PM5005 still features a full metal chassis with a profiled metal front panel. Combined with the anti-vibration feet, this makes the PM5005 excellent at suppressing audio-degrading mechanical vibrations, for reduced distortion. For a budget amp with a lively, dynamic sound plus a full range of features, the Marantz PM5005 deserves to be at the heart of your system.
